Karin Atherstone (Le Roux) is originally from Johannesburg and has been living in Somerset West since 1988. She has always been interested in the creative arts having studied art at school. She began a serious study in watercolour later in life and this soon became her passion.

She has studied with numerous teachers over the years and is grateful for what she has gleaned from other artists in the Western Cape and abroad. She has always been intrigued by this medium’s lively nature.  She is a past chairperson of the Western Cape Art Society, and also a member of SASA (South African Society of Artists) and the Stellenbosch Art Society.

Karin enjoys interacting with people and sharing her knowledge of watercolour.  She is privileged to have a beautiful studio and gallery with magnificent views of the Helderberg mountains, where she shares her creative space with other artists when teaching.  She offers watercolour painting classes in English and Afrikaans.
